Here is the completed (almost) crayfish costume that I've been working on. I say almost done because we took the pictures before I had drawn on the detailing for the carapace and claws. But you get the idea ^^ It is made for someone five inches taller than me, hopefully it will fit them well. I have been wanting to make a crayfish costume for the past four years, so I was happy to be paid to make one.

It is made of 2 inch foam sheets, with two layers in the claws and one layer each in the carapace (head/body) and the tail. There's also poly stuffing here and there - mainly the legs which you cannot see in this photo. The cloth used was wool/viscose blend (dark brown), dyed cotton twill (light tan - also not visible in this photo), and felt (black eyes).

I am supposed to make a second one as well, slightly different to represent a different species (this is a white-clawed crayfish).

More photos are in my scrapbook.

can you help me make one? thats whative been trying to make. crayfish are cool to me, there my favorite animal. i eve have a pet one!

Oh really? What species do you have?

The costume is made using 2 inch thick foam covered in fabric, basically. The claws are two layers of foam stuck together. The legs are filled with stuffed animal stuffing instead of foam.
